The Biden administration has created a special free pass for thousands of illegal immigrants to enter the United States if they have ties to family already inside the country.
The Department of Homeland Security said it is reestablishing a questionable program used by former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama to let in 73,500 immigrants from Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
A new analysis of the program said the system lets immigrants skip the line to get into the U.S. and join their relatives if they qualify ahead of others who have been in line for years.
The Center for Immigration Studies said the “parole program” also helps to hide the real number of immigrants flooding into the country from Latin America.
“The creation of this program is also another method the Biden administration is employing to obscure data underlying the mass illegal immigration crisis in the United States. By paroling aliens into the United States from these countries, which in recent years have accounted for large percentages of border encounters, the Biden administration will be able to further reduce the number of aliens apprehended between ports of entry DHS reports each month, while still allowing large numbers of inadmissible aliens to enter, remain, and work in the United States without a visa,” the analysis said.
The administration argued that the program is needed for humanitarian reasons, among others. But CIS said the reasons given for the program would not qualify for most other immigrants seeking to enter the U.S. legally.
The program has a three-year limit for stays, but immigrants can ask for extensions, likely giving them a free pass and accompanying work visa for life, the report said.
