Mexican president claims Biden won't add on new sections of border wall, says it's 'pure publicity'

"They don't want to (build more sections of the wall), that's what they told us," Obrador said.

The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, said during a press conference that he doubts that the Biden administration will go through with adding more sections to the border wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. 

"It's pure publicity," Obrador said on Friday, according to Yahoo Finance. 

"They don't want to (build more sections of the wall), that's what they told us," he added later. 

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas wrote a notice Thursday in the federal register about the construction of 18-foot-tall steel fencing that will cover about 20 miles along the border in Texas.

"There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States," the notice read.

Biden's time in the White House has seen record numbers of border encounters, with more than 7 million people illegally entering the country during his tenure.
