Migrant Surge Brings Killers and Criminal Gangs

Former New York City Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly, the department’s longest-serving commissioner, cautioned on Sunday that New York City’s quality of life “has really deteriorated.” Migrant crime is a major reason.

Venezuela’s notorious Tren de Aragua gang and El Salvador’s feared MS-13 — what former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker calls “prison-spawned gangs” — are threatening to take over American cities. They bring “mindless knuckle-dragging violence,” warns Swecker. They’re the “most dangerous gangs on the planet.”

Swecker speculates that countries are emptying their prisons deliberately. Gang leaders setting up crime rings in the U.S. “come out of the muck and the slime of the South American prisons.”

While law enforcement officials here are warning us about the collapse of public safety, left-wing pols deny there’s a problem. Ana Maria Archila, co-director of New York’s Working Families Party, calls the “chaos and insecurity” people are feeling a “false sense.” She blames it on racism and xenophobia, not reality. Open your eyes, Ms. Archila.

Public safety is visibly spiraling downward: migrants beating cops in Times Square; migrants running prostitution rings; migrants on mopeds robbing pedestrians; migrants shoplifting and stripping retail stores; and now a migrant who recently left New York has been arrested for killing a Georgia nursing student, Laken Riley. Not everyone violating the border is a hardened criminal, but President Joe Biden’s open borders are allowing the worst to get in.

When Mayor Eric Adams was asked on Feb. 20 about stabbing incidents and violence against cops at the Randall’s Island shelter, Adams said that “even the most peaceful person — being confined to an area with 3,000 people … there comes a time where it just irritates you.”

“Irritates”? Adams is downplaying a serious threat.

New York’s misguided “sanctuary city” policy makes the danger worse. If a migrant is arrested in New York, the NYPD is barred from communicating with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement to determine whether the migrant should be deported, jailed or allowed back on the street. On Monday, Adams stated clearly that sanctuary status must be changed so migrants who commit felonies can be picked up by ICE and deported. He’s said it before. Now it needs to happen.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, entered the U.S. from Venezuela illegally in September 2022, was granted “parole” under Biden’s policy and came to New York on a bus. While here, he was arrested once but not detained. Now he’s charged with murdering Riley, who was out jogging on the University of Georgia’s Athens campus.

Swecker suggests that “this man did not burst spontaneously into a criminal overnight. This is someone who has committed crimes before.”

After moving to Athens, Georgia, Ibarra was arrested three times, including for shoplifting. But Athens is also a sanctuary city, and he was always released.

On Saturday at CPAC, Donald Trump likened “migrant crime” to the deeds of fictional killer Hannibal Lecter, who eats victims. Not such a stretch in Ibarra’s case, considering he’s charged with “murder with malice” for bludgeoning Riley’s body until it was disfigured.

The vicious gang MS-13 is resurging and may join forces with Tren de Aragua. In 2017, an MS-13 gang hacked and beheaded four Long Island teens, using machetes, knives and a chisel. Gruesome.

The Left denies migrant crime is a problem. The public knows better. A new Pew Research Center report says 57% of Americans believe the huge influx of migrants is leading to more crime.

On Saturday, Adams stood in Times Square, boasting that it’s safe. But saying it doesn’t make it so. Just two days earlier, a teenager visiting the “Crossroads of the World” for the first time was knifed by a gang of masked attackers, including several migrants. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a collapsed lung.

Migrant gangs pose the biggest danger, but pervasive sex trafficking is also a scourge. Watch at about 6 p.m. each day as women exit shelters and get picked up in cars, leaving their kids behind for the night. It’s happening in all five boroughs, according to Homeland Security Investigations Deputy Agent in Charge Darren McCormack.

Are neighbors who criticize what’s happening xenophobic and racist? No. They just want a decent life, and they see it disappearing fast.

Killing candidates south of the border

If it’s Thursday morning, then it’s another post about violence in Mexico. Or as a Mexican friend said: “Dios mio todos los dias” or “My God, every day.” Yes, killing is happening too much south of the border, whether you are a journalist or a couple of candidates running for office. This is the story:

Two mayoral hopefuls in the Mexican city of Maravatío have been gunned down within hours of each other, as experts warn the June 2 national elections could be the country’s most violent on record.

The widening control of drug cartels in Mexico has been described as a threat. During the last nationwide election in 2021, about three dozen candidates were killed.

The campaigns haven’t even started yet. They formally begin on Friday.

On Tuesday, this farming town, where most of the men wear boots and big belt buckles, was in a state of wary shock following the previous day’s killings. Dozens of state police were visible around city hall.

No campaigning yet, but the killers couldn’t care less about that. Who knew that criminals did not obey or respect election campaign laws? Remember that the next time that someone questions your Second Amendment right.

Maravatío is one of those Mexican towns that most tourists don’t see. They are hidden in the countryside, and people have lived there for centuries. The people are generally farmers and are very skeptical of the federal government.

The two candidates murdered confirm that criminal elements “...make much of their money extorting protection payments from local businesses and even local governments. That’s why mayoral races are more important to them than national elections and often become violent.”

Again, the official campaign starts on Friday, and God only knows who will be killed next.

Trump won on the border in 2016; he can do so again in 2024

In 2016, Trump promised to build a wall, and people voted for him, knowing that a sovereign border was an integral part of Making America Great Again. During the first two years of his administration, a Republican-controlled Congress shut him down on the border. However, simply by enforcing existing laws, Trump did a decent job of slowing the flood. Biden reversed Trump’s policies, flooding our nation with illegal aliens, many of whom are very bad people. Now, even more than in 2016, Americans understand that there’s a problem, and Trump needs to trumpet to the rafters that he will Make America Great Again…again by ending illegal immigration.

• Two days ago, an illegal alien was arrested on charges of raping a woman in Florida.
• Last week, Laken Riley was brutally murdered. An illegal alien has been arrested for the crime.
• Two weeks ago, an illegal alien was arrested for killing a 10-year-old Texas boy in a hit-and-run accident.
• Also, two weeks ago, ICE arrested 26 illegal aliens in California who have already been convicted of or charged with murder, homicide, and child sex crimes.

You can find stories like this every day—and none of the above reports even consider the costs of the cartels importing drugs and engaging in both adult and child sex trafficking.

Open borders advocates will argue that illegal aliens don’t commit crimes at rates any higher than people legally in America, but that’s irrelevant. What’s relevant is that they shouldn’t be here at all. The rate of crimes that illegal aliens commit—crimes that see Americans assaulted, raped, killed, and robbed—should be zero because these people shouldn’t be here in the first place.

As Americans watch illegal aliens pour over the border, destroy once peaceful and prosperous border communities, assault law enforcement, commit all sorts of crimes (both property and violent), and make demands on a country that they entered illegally, they’re not happy. Gallup just released a poll in which 86% of Americans (that means Democrats, too) say that illegal immigration poses a threat to America:

Americans don’t need fancy degrees or studies to understand that people who come with nothing, demand everything, and periodically engage in criminal activities pose a risk to communities’ safety and to America’s economic foundation. In a country already reeling from the economic destruction wrought by the COVID lockdowns and Biden’s war on hydrocarbon energy, the added weight of illegal aliens can be catastrophic.

This is the time for Trump to start hitting hard with ads and speeches about the steps he plans to take to close America’s border and repatriate the illegal aliens who are already here. Congress should get on board, too, because the American people are not happy.

The MAGA War Room, recognizing a political trend, put out an incredibly hard-hitting ad reminding people exactly what Joe Biden has done to America:

We’re often told that America needs all these illegal aliens because we Americans do not have enough children. And that latter point is correct: We aren’t having enough children.

But you don’t replace a population by letting the raff and scaff of the world, not to mention terrorists and foot soldiers from unfriendly nations, self-import, and then demand the keys to the kingdom. Instead, you use legislation to reconfigure the number of people allowed in legally.

And more than that, once these new legal immigrants are here, you implement mandatory programs to bring them up to speed on American values and laws. Front and center in these new rules should be a law withholding all federal funds from schools that don’t teach patriotic civics from kindergarten through post-graduate degrees.
