Myth of Misguided People on Illegal Immigration

Listed below are several of the arguments that have been used by misguided people to try and justify illegal immigration. Next to each is the reason why that argument has no merit.

1) They are an economic necessity - Not true. The idea that a bunch of desperately poor, uneducated, unskilled, non-English speaking foreigners are an economic necessity is ludicrous. In fact, when you compare cost vs. benefit, it is obvious that they are not only NOT a necessity, they are not even an asset. Rather, they are a liability and a huge one at that.

2) They do work Americans won’t do - Not true. They do work Americans won’t do for $7 an hour (especially if Americans can collect welfare and unemployment instead). Of course, if you got rid of the illegal aliens, the jobs wouldn’t pay $7 an hour. The people who wanted the work done would have to pay a wage that was attractive enough to get Americans to do the work. And it might even be enough to get Americans off the unemployment and welfare dole and back into the taxpaying workforce!

3) We benefit from all that “cheap” labor - This is nonsense. The only people who benefit from the cheap labor are the unscrupulous people who hire illegal immigrants. Taxpayers are left holding the bag. Ultimately, it is they who must pay to support all the Americans who have been put out of work by illegal aliens and must also provide billions of dollars in services and benefits to the illegal aliens themselves.

4) They are just trying to make better lives - Aren’t we all? The difference is that most of us understand that we DO NOT have a right to acquire by illegal means those things that we find difficult to acquire by legal means. And we certainly don’t have the right to do it in a foreign country.

5) It is impossible to round up and deport the illegal aliens - We don’t have to. All we have to do is remove the incentives that brought them here in the first place. No jobs. No housing. No taxpayer financed services or benefits (including education). Once we remove the incentives that brought them here, they will leave on their own.

6) Immigration control is racist / xenophobic - This is just another play of the race card by people who have no other cards to play. Immigration control is the world-wide status quo. There is nothing racist about it. Furthermore, the USA welcomes LEGAL immigrants of all races and ethnicities from all over the world who have gone through the legal immigration process. This is not just a bad argument; it is an attempt to create racial hatred and division.

7) We are a nation of immigrants - This is the “BIG LIE”. The vast majority of Americans are native-born. I am not an immigrant, nor were my parents, nor were my grandparents. We are a nation that has, historically, allowed and even encouraged LEGAL immigration. And we continue to do so. The issue at hand is illegal immigration, which has nothing to do with legal immigration.

8) They are people. We must treat them humanely - Yes & yes. But let’s not pretend like they are victims who were dragged here kicking and screaming against their will. Nothing could be further from the truth. They came of their own free will and for their own benefit and they broke the law to do it. People should not be rewarded for breaking laws and committing crimes. Sending them home is the right thing to do. There is nothing “draconian” or “mean-spirited” about it.

9) It is wrong to break up families - Yes. Unfortunately, families are often broken up by criminal activity. If you don’t believe it, just drop by any prison or jail on visiting day. We can’t keep families together if some family members choose to participate in criminal activity.

10) They work & contribute to our society - So do I. And if I break the law and commit crimes, I can expect to pay a penalty of some kind, anything from a small fine to the death penalty. I do not receive a reward. Why should we treat foreign criminals better than our own citizens?

What The U. S. A. Has Become, Sorry to Say

Ignorance Plus Blind, Crass Political Lunacy or Expediency at its Worst

For decades now our nation has been the target of an invasion by millions of people who crossed our borders illegally from other parts of the world, while our powerful armed forces have been engaged against different challenges in other continents. More than two dozen years ago we thought that the quick-fix, magic solution to this de facto invasion of our own land was just to ignore our own laws and to accept that those alien invaders could remain permanently and legally within our country. Bingo! 

Problem solved, right?

How naïve and unrealistic we were! That “magic solution” (the 1986 “IRCA” amnesty for aliens illegally in the U.S.) was nothing more than our own failure to face the real world and to think the problem through before acting. From the time of the ’86 amnesty, the inevitable and logical result has been that the amnesty law itself became an invitation and lure for many more millions of aliens to enter and remain in our nation illegally. And those now vastly outnumber the ones who benefitted from the ’86 amnesty.

Today, incredibly, apparently from inexcusable ignorance of our own past, or from blind political expediency at its worst, or both, we have the very recent spectacle of a number of United States Senators publicly proclaiming their support for yet another amnesty for the now much larger number of millions of aliens who have entered and are present in the United States in violation of our own laws. Alice in Wonderland cannot begin to rival this fantasy.

At this rate, in another couple of dozen or more years, after we’ve formalized this new red-carpet invitation to invade us to the rest of the planet’s inhabitants, we’ll have to have yet another amnesty for the future millions, and then another, ad nauseam. The question is not ”have our politicians lost all their senses?” Because the obvious answer is they already have.

Are you listening, Mr. Schumer and Mr. Obama? What is your real ultimate purpose in pushing this insanity?  Blind, suicidal, self-advancing political hypocrisy at its worst!

If they succeed, let’s get ready to become the United States of Bangladesh or something similar. No other nation on this planet would even think of such lunacy. They would consider it treason just to be promoting it. Is this still the nation for whose preservation so many of our heroic soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors gave their lives in World War?

‘Gang of Eight’ Amnesty Plan Undermines Immigration

"America is a nation of immigrants, built by immigrants and we need to honor that heritage by fixing our broken immigration system, while upholding the rule of law and championing legal immigration," said Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a statement last week when offering an amendment to the Schumer-Rubio immigration bill.

Cruz, the son of a legal Cuban immigrant, is absolutely correct.

Immigration is the foundation of this great nation. Millions of immigrants from all over the world have flocked here to better their lives. Anyone who comes here and becomes American can make it if they work hard and realize their full potential. That is why legal immigration must be encouraged.

Sadly, lawmakers are more interested in trading our sovereignty for votes and political favors a la amnesty.

The “Gang of Eight”--which comprises four Democrat senators and four Republican senators--is attempting to ram through a 867-page bill in the fashion Obamacare was ushered in. They decry that if we do not go along with this deal, we are perpetuating “de facto” amnesty. Like the good politicians they are, the Gang of Eight assures us their plan will fix our border problems. Clearly that is not the case.

Heritage Foundation recently released a report detailing the costs of the “Gang of Eight” immigration plan. The report estimates the plan will cost American taxpayers a whopping $6.3 trillion over the next 50 years. If this bill were to pass, amnesty would be implemented in several phases. In the first phase, illegal aliens would receive legal status but not have access to means-tested welfare and Obamacare. After 13 years, the second phase would allow them to access means-tested welfare and Obamacare. The final phase of amnesty, or retirement, would grant them access to Social Security and Medicare.

Not surprisingly, many leftists and pro-amnesty Republicans immediately attacked Heritage Foundation’s report besmirching the think tank for being “racist” and a “scaremonger.” Instead, outrage should be placed on the Gang of Eight’s plan since it is slated to waste money, grow the welfare state, and undermine border security.

The question beckons: why are lawmakers circumventing legal immigration?

Approximately 4,412,693 people are waiting to become American citizens. Inefficiency, endless red tape, and continual pandering to illegal aliens have left this important contingent in the dark.

For example, a friend of mine from New Zealand recently became a U.S. citizen after waiting 14 years. He followed laws, assimilated, and patiently waited for citizenship. Countless other applicants for citizenship wait decades to be granted citizenship, as well.

It is important to note opposing amnesty does not make one “anti-immigrant” or “racist.” Supporting legal immigration coupled with the rule of law is in America’s best interests.

As a daughter of immigrants, I can personally attest how great legal immigration is.

My parents legally came to this country 27 years ago as political refugees from the formerly Soviet-occupied Baltic Republic of Lithuania. My mother and my father were extremely lucky to receive exit visas. After five years of waiting, they got green cards. Several years after that, they were granted citizenship. Today, my parents remain grateful to be naturalized Americans.

Like the millions of legal immigrants who came here, my parents sought freedom and opportunities that were denied to them in the Old Country. They learned English and assimilated. They didn’t ask this government for handouts nor did they bypass the law to acquire citizenship. They followed the rules and are extremely grateful to have been bestowed with American citizenship.

Legal immigrants like my parents respect the rule of law, desire to become American, and do not demand government handouts. They see citizenship as a privilege bestowed to them--something they must pursue and work hard for. When citizenship is freely handed out like candy, people do not value or appreciate this country. Citizenship must be earned.

Becoming American should be celebrated and encouraged. Millions of people from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, South America, and Africa have traversed this great nation and added to her greatness. They retain their respective cultures and value systems but adopt the American way of life. America is and must remain a melting pot.

Improving and reforming legal immigration, not granting amnesty, is the only way forward. If individuals desire to become American, they must do it the right way--the legal way.

Amnesty is Not The Answer

House Immigration Bill Just as Bad

The Gang of Eight pro-amnesty Senators are trying to con the House of Representatives into passing parts of an anti-American amnesty bill so they can get a Chuck Schumer-dominated conference committee and bamboozle Representatives into going along with their sellout plans. The few pro-amnesty Republican Senators had Marco Rubio as the salesman for the unpopular amnesty bill, and the few pro-amnesty Republicans in the House have Paul Ryan to play the same un-Republican role.

The Gang of Eight patted itself on the back for successfully passing their bill in the Senate, but, funny thing, the bill was never forwarded to the House for action. The explanation for this irregular omission is fear that the House would "blue slip" the bill.

Article 1, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution gives the sole power to the House to originate all bills for raising revenue, known as the Origination Clause. If the Senate oversteps and includes a provision to raise some revenue (which it did in the Gang's amnesty bill), the House can reject the bill and send it back to the Senate for correction in what is known as a "blue slip" procedure.

The devious Ryan plan to circumvent this rule is for the House to pass five or six bills on various aspects of amnesty and then use that bunch of bills to call for a conference committee with the Senate. Ryan let the cat out of the bag when he told a constituent audience in Racine, Wis. on July 26 that his revised plan now calls for a House vote, not before the August recess as originally expected but in October.

There is no indication that the Ryan amnesty is any better for Americans than the Rubio amnesty. Amnesty is still a bad deal for all, whether it comes in one package or in six.

The former New York Lt. Gov., Dr. Betsy McCaughey, the only one known to have actually read the 1,200-page Senate bill, says that the bill's text is loaded with "slippery" words (such as "emergency," "comprehensive," "plan" and "reform") that create loopholes giving Barack Obama the opportunity to refuse to enforce any provisions he doesn't like, including border security that the public is demanding.

That's what Obama notoriously did to cancel provisions of other laws, notably Obamacare's date of enforcement and the effective Work Requirement in Welfare Reform. Obama also seems to think he can invent his own new laws never passed by Congress, such as the Dream Act and anti-coal regulations.

There are so many dangerous and costly provisions in Congress' amnesty plans that they are difficult even to itemize, but for starters take the foolishness that amnesty loosens the rules for asylum seekers. We should have learned some deadly lessons from the asylum seekers we have already welcomed who turned out to be terrorists, such as the first World Trade bombers in 1993 and the Boston Marathon bombers this year.

The new amnesty bill reduces the application to be an asylum seeker from the current one-year deadline to as many years as the immigrant wants and, incredibly, allows the U.S. Attorney General to pay the asylum seekers' legal fees. We should absolutely bar all entry from countries that routinely engage in terrorism.

Another highly dangerous and costly provision that should be decisively rejected is the politically motivated plan to outsource duties to community organizers and activists who will be paid by our taxpayers to help immigrants transition to American life and apply for government benefits. That's like pouring tax dollars into the Democratic voting machine to do phone banking and outreach to load new entrants permanently into the Democratic Party.

The amnesty bill even assigns some of these so-called non-profit, left-wing community groups the task of rewriting provisions for U.S. citizenship. This indicates how far the left-wing's "religion" of diversity is taking us: That duty certainly should be performed by Americans, not foreigners.

Here's a good question for a new Congressional hearing. Will the Internal Revenue Service do a thorough audit of these groups' tax-exempt status and demand answers to intrusive questions, as the IRS did with the Tea Parties?

Here's another good question to which we would like an answer in an open congressional hearing. How many young illegal aliens who cross our southern border illegally are valedictorians compared with those who are carrying illegal drugs? The left went into spasms of rage when Rep. Steve King suggested there might be more of the latter, so let's have an investigation to find out if King was correct.
